Hurricane Irene

Kind of a gyp. The media kept hyping up this storm as the storm of the century, but I've seen worse thunderstorms.

All the same, if the power goes out I'll probably be gone until well into September. Fox and I (and Art of Creation) are moving to Oklahoma At the beginning of the month.

I know this move is good for us, it should be good for business as well.

Move or Die

Move or Die; one of the rules of life.

Entropy trumps everything. Everything, absolutely everything that holds still eventually decays and dies. It is only by moving, changing, and adapting constantly, that we continue to exist. Never stop changing.

A Magical Principle

It seems to me, that most of magical practice can be reduced down to a fairly simple (if sometimes painfully difficult) mental process.

One must begin with a desire, obviously. The basic method is, focus one's thoughts on that desire, visualize it as though it has already occurred, and call up all the emotions associated with it. You must truly feel the need, channeling this energy into the visualization. Release the image and the energy into the universe, and then (and this is the key) LET IT GO.

Ideally, one must completely forget about this desire, whatever it is, and cease to think about it. Every time our thoughts return to the goal, we are holding onto that energy and keeping it from manifesting in the physical world.

I believe this is why some magical traditions have a taboo against casting spells for one's self. It is difficult to forget one's own desires, and therefore some people have greater difficulty casting spells for themselves; the failure has been attributed to the idea that "the gods" or other higher power do not approve of spells for personal gain, and have prevented them from succeeding.

On the other side of the coin, some individuals have difficulty casting spells for other people because they do not truly feel the emotions associated with the need. You have to truly want it.

Personally, I find spellwork on behalf of others quite easy, because I channel the emotions of the other person while I'm working, and then close the connection when I'm done and am able to forget. I have difficulty casting spells for myself, and my solution is that every time my mind wanders back to the subject of a spell I have previously cast, I pour that emotional energy into the same visualization, and push it out into the universe again, effectively adding that energy to the original spell.

So far it's been fairly successful, but of late I find I am doing spellwork for myself less and less often, and relying instead on the guidance of outside forces to simply find the physical action I must take to achieve my goals quickly and effectively.

As a little suggestion regarding the raising of energy, all of the emotions surrounding a particular need are useful. One must truly and deeply feel the desire for a goal to be achieved, pain and anxiety caused by its absence, and most importantly the feeling of joy as though it has already occurred.

This whole concept was taught to me by Fox actually, and since she was a small child all she's ever needed to do was want something and it happened, but it took her many years to realize how it actually worked. She has only ever failed to achieve a goal when she was uncertain what she wanted.

On Creation and Destruction

These thoughts are inspired by a conversation I had yesterday with Feranaja of Earthsong yesterday, and a book I was reading today.

I have said many times that I do not believe in objective good and evil. I believe in creation, destruction, and perspective. That which is evil to one person is good to another. To those in power, revolution is an act of evil; to the oppressed it is miraculous, and the status quo is evil.

In most beings, these forces exist in some combination, if not truly balanced. In this world, pure destruction or creation is not possible, the most pacifistic and kind-hearted of beings still killed a head of Lettuce for that salad, and there has never been a child born who lived past their first year without bringing joy to a heart somewhere in the world. I do however believe that beings who are forces exclusively of one or the other do exist in a cosmic sense.

A little reading on Hindu religion and Brahma the Creator, Vishnu the Preserver, and Shiva the Destroyer has led me to the realization that there are three distinct types of people. The creators, the destroyers, and the preservers. Mirroring these deities.

The creators, obviously, create. These are the artists, the activists, the teachers. Those who are responsible for the new ideas, the new images, and new ways of life.

The destroyers, again are obvious, they destroy. These also serve their purpose. The test the work of the creators, who might be tempted to settle for what they think is perfect, if the destroyers didn't point out and abuse the flaws in their creators, forcing them to constantly improve and innovate. The destroyers clear out the stagnant and outdated, and force improvement and progress on that which they do not utterly destroy.

I think I can identify myself as one of the preservers. These are the healers, the diplomats and counselors, those who strive for balance, protect those creations that need to exist, and heal and support both the creators and the destroyers. The perspective part of my original equation.

Beginning

The inaugural post on my blog. I'm going to give this a try and see if it's worth doing.

In this blog, I will be recording my bizarre thoughts, and any necessary updates for Art of Creation. Stay tuned.

I am going to try to embed this whole mess into the website as well. Wish me luck.

I just recently finished setting up an online shop, complete with actual pictures, so visit http://art-of-creation.webs.com and take a look... Pretty please.

As for something worth reading... If that's what you were looking for, too bad. Better luck next time. I'll try to come up with something intelligent to say.
